PICCADILLY LAVATORIES.
The cost of general repairs and contracts for alterations,
&c., to the Lavatories was £534 9s. 6d.; gas, including
that consumed in the large lamps outside, £86 8s. 10d.;
water, £205 1s. 6d.; and electric light, £40 6s. 6d.
As the L'Incrusta Walton with which the ceilings were
covered was constantly becoming detached in places and
hanging down, and as the ceilings never looked clean and
tidy your Vestry decided to remove the L'Incrusta Walton
entirely and replace it with opal glass formed into panels,
and held in position by moulded wooden ribs, and also to
cover the fascias under the pavement lights with " Opalite "
tiling. Advantage was likewise taken of the slack season
to repaint the building and substitute the Electric Light
for Gas. The Contract for the ceilings was carried out by
Mr. C. W. Knight, of 14 and 15, Marlborough Mews, Oxford
Street, for the painting by Messrs. R. & J. Shiers, of 5,
King Street, Recent Street, and for the electric light
fittings by Messrs. Freeman & Co., of 21, Swallow Street,
Piccadilly.
GREAT MARLBOROUGH STREET LAVATORIES.
Your Vestry being constantly in receipt of complaints
from the inhabitants of nuisances committed in the neigh-
bourhood of Great Marlborough Street, decided to construct
Underground Lavatories in that thoroughfare opposite the
Police Court to abate the nuisances complained of. Your
Vestry accordingly gave me instructions to prepare the
necessary plans and specification and obtain Tenders for
carrying out the work. Tenders were subsequently
received from Messrs. John Bolding & Sons, Mr. George
Jennings, Messrs. H. Doulton & Co., and Messrs. B. Finch
& Co. The lowest tender that of Messrs. B. Finch & Co.,
