STATE AID TO VOLUNTARY SCHOOLS.
The Vestry's attention having been called to the proposals
of the Government in the latter part of the year
with regard to the contemplated grant from the Rates or
Taxes to Denominational Schools, passed the following
resolutions on the subject:—
(a) That this Vestry, understanding that the Government
template making a grant to the Denominational Schools, is
of most emphatic opinion that such grant should come out
of the Imperial Taxes, without further burdening the
already heavily-rated householders by making such grant a
charge on the Rates.
(b) That a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to Her
Majesty's Government, the Bishops of London ar.d Peterborough,
the Right Rev. Bishop Barry, Rector of St.
James's, the metropolitan Members of Parliament, and the
Rating Authorities of the Metropolis.
CONFERENCES.
The only Conference, in addition to the one convened by
this Vestry on the subject of Disorderly Houses, to which
delegates were sent during the year was that convened by
the Vestry of St. Pancras on the subject of the Vaccination
Acts. The delegates appointed were — Dr. Axham, and
Messrs. J. E. Bennett, R. C. Hill, and G. Angold.
CONCLUDING REMARKS.
The Vestry have not attempted in the foregoing Report
to touch upon mere routine business requiring attention
from day to day, or upon questions which are not deemed
to be of general interest, but have endeavoured to submit
to their fellow parishioners, in as clear and succinct a
manner as possible, a statement of the principles which
have guided them in the discharge of their trust, and
particulars of the present condition of the Parish.
By Order,
T. HENSMAN MUNSEY,
Vestry Clerk.
