mittee. This Board are in favour of the transfer of the
undertakings of the London Water Companies to a public
authority, but they are of opinion that the London
County Council is not the fittest body for the purpose,
and that a Water Trust should be constituted on which
the large areas outside London, which are supplied by
the same Companies, should be represented. The Board,

appeared on their behalf before the Committee. Early
in the proceedings the Committee intimated that the
terms of the reference did not enable them to consider
an alternative scheme, and as the views of the Board had
been brought before the Committee, the Board, in view of
the great length to which the enquiry was likely to
extend and the consequent heavy expensfc of continuing
their appearance, decided to withdraw counsel for the time.
A.t the time of writing this report the Committee are
still sitting. The six other Bills have not yet been
read a second time.
