REPORT.
To the Chairman and Members of the Tottenham Local Board
of Health.
Gentlemen,
I am pleased to be able to give a favourable report of the Public
Health in Tottenham during the year 1893.
There has been a decrease in the prevalence and fatality from
infectious diseases throughout the district, especially in the more
crowded neighbourhoods, and your Board and its Officers are to be
congratulated on the results of the good sanitary supervision and control
exercised by them in the prevention of the spread of contagious
diseases, and particularly in the improved sanitary state of dwelling
houses, whereby the condition of the people is raised and a higher
standard of health established.
Houses and Population.
The number of houses for which plans were passed by your
Board during the year amounted to 206, a decrease on the previous
year of 163.
Under the Board's Bye-Laws with respect to buildings in course
of erection 74 notices were served on builders; the requirements of
the notices were in every case complied with, and no legal proceedings
ensued.
The population estimated to the middle of 1893 amounted to
75,000.
