HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT.
Under the provisions of this Statute notices were served
upon the owner of two houses in Little Arthur Street, Golden
Lane, to make the same fit for human habitation. The age
and faulty construction of the buildings, however, were such
that the owner found himself unable to comply with the
notices. Nevertheless, he resisted the Vestry's action, and
closing orders were applied for. The case came before Mr.
Rose at Clerkenwell Police Court, who, after two adjournments,
to enable the owner to obtain legal assistance, granted closing
orders, which have been duly complied with.
