DIARRHCEAL ORDER.
7.—Diarrhœa.
The 25 deaths from diarrhoea were identical with the
decennial average. Like whooping-cough this disease was
especially fatal to children, for it carried off 18 lives under
five years.
Cholera.
In 1892-3, cholera raged in various parts of the Continent,
whilst England enjoyed a remarkable immunity from it.
The disease having reappeared this year in Russia, and
other Continental cities, the Local Government Board
issued the following circular letter and memorandum to
Sanitary Authorities in the Metropolis, with a view of
organising precautionary measures against the possible
introduction of cholera into London.
Local Government Board, Whitehall, S.W.
June 22nd, 1893.
CHOLERA.
Sir,
I am directed by the Local Government Board to call attention
to their circular letter of the 25th August, last, in which, in view
of the severe outbreak of cholera, which was then occurring in
Hamburg, they reminded Sanitary Authorities of the responsibilities
and duties devolving upon them in connection with the organization
of measures of precaution against the possible introduction of the
disease in London.
