General Remarks
In this way during the last quarter of the year 1894, 20 streets, and 353 houses
were examined and reported upon.
No. of tenements ... ... ... ... 516
No. of persons affected ... ... ... ... 2737
No. of Sanitary defects. ... ... ... ... 708
No. found to be in fair condition ... ... ... 59
It should be added that the worst class of Ute- streets has been dealt with first,
but at the same time these facts and figures, I think, more than justify the adoption
of the system.
The routine work of the inspectors is undertaken in the following order oi
precedence:—
1. Infectious cases.
2. Complaints.
3. Works in progress.
4. House to house visitation.
5. Miscellaneous.
Court Work, as it arises.
I may perhaps be allowed to add my opinion that this system of house to house
inspection is likely to do more towards raising the general health standard of your
district than any single step yet taken by your Vestry.
