meteorological conditions of the past year, based on
the observations taken at Greenwich, support what
has been said. For this purpose the results of the
observations during the third quarter of the year
will be examined.
The mean air temperature for the quarter was
62º.3, 2º.2 above the average for the preceding 54
years, but was only slightly above the average in
July and August. The mean daily range was 20º.7
for the quarter, lº.0 above the average, being, however,
below the average in July and August. The
mean of the daily maxima was below the average
in July, and above it in August and September,
especially in the latter month. The mean of the
daily minima was above the average in each of the
three months. These facts are set out in the
appended statement:—
