No records are published as to re-vaccination, nor
is it compulsory. It is well known that the protection
afforded by vaccination tends to disappear towards
adult life, of which fact there is ample proof in the
Report on the Sheffield epidemic of small-pox by Dr.
Barry. It is desirable that vaccination should be
repeated at least once after it is done in infancy.
As the object of vaccination is the prevention of
the spread of disease, it is an anomaly that the duty of
carrying the law into effect should rest with the Poor
Law Authorities, It ought to be in the hands of the
Sanitary Officers.
The Report of the Royal Commission on Vaccination
is still unpublished, but has been announced as
almost complete. It seems well, therefore, to abstain
from any further remarks on the subject until the
Report is out.
