and 6 from 90 years and upwards.
Causes of Death.—No death has arisen from Small Pox in
the year. There has been an increase in the number of fatal cases
of Measles, Scarlet Fever, Typhus Fever, and Diarrhoea, and a
diminution in those of Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, and Enteric
Fever, when compared with the cases of last year.

Diphtheria 38, Typhus Fever 1, Enteric Fever 10, Diarrhoea 83,
Syphilis 11, Erysipelas 5, Puerperal Fever 6, Alcoholism 14, Cancer
42, Tabes Mesenterica 17, Rheumatic Fever 9, Tubercular Disease
of Brain 38, Phthisis 177, Premature Birth 81, Apoplexy and Brain
Softening 72, Inflammation of Brain or Membranes 34, Convulsions
84, Heart Disease 115, Bronchitis 331, Pneumonia 230, Enteritis 31,
Peritonitis 15, Bright's Disease 41, Influenza 37, and Old Age 86.
2. Fractures and Contusions 10, Drowning 2, Children accidentally
suffocated in bed 18, other causes of suffocation 2.
3. Murder 1, Suicide by Gunshot 1, by Stab 1, by Poison 1, by
Hanging 3, by other means 1.
4. Infants from Debility and insufficient or unsuitable food 124.
Uncertified Deaths.—The number of uncertified deaths
was 65, being rather less than 3 per cent, of the total number of
deaths registered.
Mortuary.—During the year 128 bodies were received into
the Mortuary.

Inquests.—141 were held during the year; 20 in January, 7
in February, 11 in March, 4 in April, 6 in May, 14 in June, 8 in
July, 10 in August, 7 in September, 15 in October, 14 in November,
and 25 in December. The cause of death was found to be excessive
drinking in 11 cases, from administration of Chloroform 2, Burns 8,
