FACTORY AND WORKSHOPS ACTS.
Her Majesty's Home Office Inspectors,
working under the above Acts, notified 104
cases; of these, 51 related to premises about to
be occupied as workshops, 37 changes of
premises.
Special attention in the middle of the year
was given to work-places in Wood Street, it
having been alleged by a writer in the public
press that in that neighbourhood would be
found one or two places where the interference
of the Sanitary Authority was desirable.
Upon enquiry as to the probability of identifying
the places referred to, H.M. Inspector
gave instructions for the whole of the factories,
work-rooms and work-places in Wood Street to
be visited by the Government Inspectors, who
alone are possessed of an official list of such
places, with the result that these gentlemen
discovered several houses which were in their
opinion below the standard required by the
later Factory Acts.
