The work in connection with the Disinfecting Department
has increased greatly during the last few years, as
shewn by the figures given in the Table on page 87. In
this Table, I have contrasted the amount of disinfection done
five years before, and five years since, the Notification of
Infectious Diseases Act, 1889, came into force. It will be
seen that during the latter quinquennium the premises
disinfected and disinfectants supplied have increased in
numbers 247%; the articles of bedding, etc., disinfected
or destroyed, 203%; and the number of cases in which
bedding, etc., have been disinfected or destroyed, 245%.
If, now, we compare the disinfection work done during
1895 with the average for the last (previous) five years, i.e.,
during the five years subsequent to the passing of the
Notification Act, there is still an increase of 40% during
the former period. The amount of work in connection
with the Disinfection Department of the Parish of Lambeth
has, therefore, increased, and the Department become
correspondingly more important, from whatever point the
subject be viewed.
