The 5,559 corrected deaths may be further analysed and tabulated according to age-periods as follows:—
| 1420, i.e.,25.5 % | of the total deaths took place | under 1 yr. of age |
| 767 „ 13.8 „ | „ „ „ | between 1 & 5 yrs. |
| 2187 „ 39.3 „ | „ „ „ | under 5 yrs |
| 260 „ 4.7 „ | „ „ „ | between 5 & 20 yrs. |
| 664 „ 11.9 „ | „ „ „ | „ 20 & 40 yrs. |
| 941 „ 16.9 „ | „ „ „ | „ 40 & 60 yrs. |
| 1225 „ 22.03 „ | „ „ „ | „ 60 & 80 yrs. |
| 282 „ 5.07 „ | „ „ „ | over 80 yrs. |
| 3372 „ 60.7 „ | „ „ „ | over 5 yrs. |
If now we take the estimated populations at the
different age-periods, we are enabled approximately to
estimate the mortalities per 1,000 persons at each ageperiod
for Lambeth, and compare them (1) with those for
London generally during 1895, and (2) with the London
averages for the ten years 1881—90, as shewn in Table E,
which gives a more trustworthy idea of the sanitary
condition of the Community—to be gained from the death
returns, and which is on the whole satisfactory as far as Lambeth
is concerned. It must be remembered, however, that the
healthiness of the Outer Wards dilutes the unhealthiness of
the Inner Wards, giving to the whole Parish an apparently
fairly healthy appearance; but you must not be misled, but
rather encouraged to make your Inner Wards as satisfactory
from a health point of view as your Outer Wards. Tables
F, G, H shew the uncorrected deaths (male and female),
arranged as to Registration Sub-Districts, age-periods, and
quarters respectively, and have been added for comparison
with similar Tables given in former Reports of Lambeth.
