THE MARRIAGE-RATE.
The number of marriages registered in Lambeth during
the year 1895 was 2,220, as compared with 2,224 for the
year 1894.
The marriage-rate for Lambeth is, therefore, 15.6 per
1,000 inhabitants, as compared with 17.1 for London.
Tables B and C shew the number of marriages and the
marriage-rates for the last 10 years in Lambeth, and it will
be noticed that the marriage-rate has been gradually, but
persistently, falling during that period, as also during the
previous decennium.
THE DEATH-RATE.
The total number of deaths registered in Lambeth during
the year 1895 was 5,857, as compared with 5,213 for the
year 1894. Of the total 5,857 deaths 2,923 were males and
2,934 females, shewing an excess of 11 females.
The death-rate for Lambeth is, therefore, 20.56 per 1,000
inhabitants (21.7 for males and 19.5 for females), as compared
with 19.8 for London (21.3 for males and 18.5 for females).
These rates are, however, uncorrected, and on analysing
the 5,857 deaths registered in Lambeth Parish it is found
that 702 represent deaths occurring within the Parish
amongst persons not belonging thereto. These are to be
deducted, but, on the other hand, there are 404 deaths
registered outside the Parish of persons belonging thereto,
and these must be added, giving a corrected number of
deaths for Lambeth during 1895 of 5,559, and a corrected
death-rate of 19.5 per 1,000 inhabitants, as compared with
19.4 for London (the total corrected number of London
deaths being 85,138).
The Institutions, &c., where the 404 Lambethians died
during 1895, may be grouped as follows:—
