years, 93 : at 60 and upwards, 43. The cause of death is
stated to have been ascertained by post-mortem examination
in 128 cases. Ten of the subjects of inquisition were
illegitimate infants.
The Deaths from Violence were 78, of which 24
belong to the Brompton sub-district.
The grounds for holding inquests are, usually, the suddenness
of death, or the circumstance that death had been caused
by violence. In many instances the Coroner's returns show
that the deceased had been " found dead," in bed or otherwise.
