births of illegitimate children in Kensington in 1893
were 179 (2 fewer than in 1892), viz., males 101, and females
78. Of these births 167 were registered in the Town subdistrict,
which includes the Parish workhouse, at which institution
there were 129 births, males 72, females 57 (including
five of still-born male children), of which 88 were illegitimate
In the Parish generally, the illegitimate births formed 4.9 per
cent. of total births, as against 5*8, 5'4, and 4.9 per cent. in
the preceding three years respectively.

The subjoined Tables show (1) the quarterly number of births of males and females in each of the sub-districts in 1893, and (2) the annual number of births, &c., in the decennium 1883-92.
