been enlarged, as proposed, it will be adequate to receive all
of the cases from the West District, and that hospital accommodation
may be provided for other districts on a scale to
render it unnecessary to send patients from those districts to
the Western Hospital, which is situated in the parish of
Fulham, near to West Brompton Station, and to the west of
the Brompton Cemetery.
Extension of the Hospital has been provided for on land
adjoining the original site, which to the amount of four acres
has been secured by the Managers at a cost of nearly £10,000.
The Committee for this Hospital submitted, in December, 1893,
an elaborate report setting forth their views as to the extent
and description of the further accommodation in their opinion
necessary, and the Managers authorised them to engage the
services of an architect, to be approved by the Board, to
prepare plans based upon their recommendations. These
include provision of another block, to contain 48 beds, for
cases of diphtheria, which has continuously demanded more
and more accommodation since the hospitals were made
available for the treatment of this disease. Provision will
also be made of an isolation block (22 beds) and of 12 beds,
in three rooms, for sick-nursing staff, one such room to be
attached to adiphtheria ward,a scarlet fever ward, and an enteric
fever ward respectively. Anadministrative block will beerected
as well as extensive additional accommodation for servants.
A new laundry and a boiler house are also to be provided.
The extension of the hospital, so far as it had previously
been sanctioned by the Board, included the erection of
four new pavilions; so that, when the further extensions
now sanctioned shall have been made, the establishment
will be one of the most important of the Managers' many
hospitals.
