Disinfectants Distributed and used.—In the following statement particulars are given of the manner in which the disinfectants were distributed.

There were, compared with the preceding year, 95 tons less
Powder, 7,815 gallons less Fluid, and 15 gallons less Clear Acid used.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
There was 1,460 deaths of children under twelve months old
These were equal to an infantile mortality rate of 150 per 1,000 children
born in the year. This rate is slightly above the rate which prevailed
during the thirteen years 1883-95, when it was 145 per 1,000.
The rate contrasts very favourably with the mortality rate
experienced in other places.
