FOOD ADULTERATION.
In the first quarter of the year 96 samples were submitted to the
Public Analyst for examination. Of these 79 proved to be genuine,
while 17 were adulterated, or 17.7 per cent. In the second quarter 93
samples were taken, out of which 13 were ascertained to have been
tampered with, or 13.9 per cent. In the third quarter out of 82
samples 62 were genuine and 20 adulterated, or 24.4 per cent. In the
fourth quarter out of 140 samples 129 were genuine and 11 adulterated,
or 7.8 per cent.
The number of samples taken during the whole year was 411, of
which 350 were genuine and 61 adulterated, making the percentage of
adulterated articles 14.8.
