In addition to these nuisances, there were about 2,000 nuisances
dealt with which were not included in the schedule of nuisances already
referred to.
This is an enormous record of work, and is far and away greater
than anything that has been attempted in the Parish in past years.
COWHOUSES.
These places were duly inspected at intervals by the Sanitary
Staff. They were also visited by the Public Health Committee, who
directed me to oppose the granting of the licenses of two Cowhouses
situated at 129, Newington Green Road, and in Mildmay Avenue.
This was done, with the result that they were struck off the register
at the Annual Licensing Sessions of the London County Council,
held at Spring Gardens.
SLAUGHTER-HOUSES.
The Slaughter-houses were also visited by the Sanitary Inspectors on
86 occasions, as well as by the Superintendent and myself. Generally
speaking they were in a far better condition than I had known them
to be in previously. It was my duty, however, to object to the renewal of
the licenses of the Slaughter-houses situated at 2, Durham Road and
13, Brandon Road, because of the uncleanly manner in which they
had been kept.
My complaint against these premises having been considered by
the Licensing Committee of the London County Council, that body
decided to withdraw the licenses. These places are now closed.
LICENSING OF SLAUGHTER AND COW-HOUSES IN
ISLINGTON, 1894.
At the annual licensing in October, 1894, there were 61
applications for the renewal of licenses to Slaughter-houses, 59 of
which were granted, and 2 were refused upon objections raised by
the Vestry.
For the renewal of licenses to Cow-houses 27 applications were
made, and 25 were granted, whilst 2 were refused.
