DISINFECTION.
Infected articles were disinfected by the contractor, Mr. Lacy, St.
John's Wharf, by whom they were also collected.
The weight of the articles disinfected was 1794 cwt., and the
amount paid by the Vestry to Mr. Lacy was £1075 9s. 4d. During the
past six years the Vestry have paid for disinfecting infected articles an
average of £870 a year.
Tenders have been now accepted for the erection of a disinfecting
station, and for the necessary plant.
SHELTER.
A shelter containing four rooms with bathroom and lavatory is
now being erected by Messrs. Humphreys, at the Townmead Wharf,
for the use of persons during the period necessary for the disinfection
of their rooms.
HOUSE REFUSE.
The weekly service for the removal of house refuse has been fairly
satisfactory, and there have been fewer complaints respecting the
delay in removal than in former years, but I would again urge upon
the Vestry the necessity for a more frequent removal of refuse from
flats, at any rate, during the hot weather.
DISPOSAL OF THE REFUSE.
The Vestry have accepted the tender of the Hornfall Company
for the erection of " Destructor " at the Townsmead Wharf, capable
of dealing with the whole of the refuse of the Parish, and the work is
now being proceeded with.
COMBINED DRAINAGE.
The existing state of the law as regards the definition of drains
and sewers, has continued to involve the Vestry in a very heavy
expenditure, as during the year, 75 systems of combined drainage,
embracing 185 houses, have been dealt with by the Vestry, who have
re-constructed the sewer portion in each case at a cost of upwards of
£2,000.
