There was a larger proportion of adults, in whom the disease is much
less fatal than in children, among those treated at home than among those
removed to hospital, and although the difference between the fatality of the
two classes was, for all ages, but slight, there was a marked difference in that
of the cases under 10 years of age, the case mortality among children of
that age treated in hospital being 18.5 per cent., whereas among those of
the same age treated at home it was 25.5 per cent.
