Inspector appointed, at any rate during the summer months, whose duties
should be to undertake a strict supervision of the food supply, and the
frequent inspection of bakehouses and other places where food is prepared
or stored.
Sanitary Staff.
I am pleased to have to record that the Vestry appointed an additional
Sanitary Inspector in July last, so that there are now five Inspectors, there
being to each Inspector 3,200 houses and 23,600 inhabitants, as compared
with 2,500 houses and 18,750 inhabitants to each Inspector in the whole of
London, and 2,900 houses and 15,000 inhabitants to each Inspector in 15 of
the large provincial towns.
Supervision of Drainage Reconstruction.
The duty of supervising the reconstruction of house drainage was
formerly in the hands of the Surveyor, but at the commencement of the year
was transferred by the Vestry to the Medical Officer of Health, and one of
the Drainage Inspectors was transferred from the Works to the Sanitary
Department so as to supervise and be responsible under the Medical Officer
of Health for the proper carrying out of the house drainage works ordered
by the Sanitary Officers of the Vestry.

It is unnecessary to notice in detail the various improvements effected,
but every effort has been made to secure a high standard of sanitation.

Road, Channing Terrace, Cortayne Road, Coomer Road, Carlton
