195 of those certified to be suffering from the disease were removed to
the Hospitals of the Metropolitan Asylums Board and 14 to other Hospitals,
or in all 59 per cent of those notified.

The disease was most prevalent in the early part of the year, the cases notified and the deaths occurring in the several quarters being—

Mortality.—The disease was the cause of 78 deaths, giving a case
mortality of 22 per cent ,as compared with 26.1 per cent, in 1893, 31.6
per cent, in 1894, and 20 per cent, in 1895. Of the 209 removed to Hospital
48 or 23.0 per cent., and of 146 treated in their own homes, 30 or 20.5
per cent. died.
