DEATH RATE.
The number of deaths registered in the parish during the year was
3,031 against 2,800 in the previous year. This includes 175 nonparishioners
who died in Bethnal Green Hospitals, and whose deaths
must be excluded from the number. On the other hand I have
received information from Somerset House, of the deaths of 399
inhabitants of Bethnal Green who died in Hospitals in other parts of
London. After adding these deaths and subtracting the nonparishioners
there is a net total of 3,257.

The deaths in each Sub-district corrected in a similar manner were as under :—

Upon the basis of the estimated population we show a mortality
rate for the year 1893 of 26 47. This is an advance of nearly three
per thousand on the rate of the previous year; and is no less than
five per thousand in excess of the general Metropolitan rate, which
was itself considerably above the average rate of the previous five
years. This is attributed by the Registrar-General to the increased
mortality from Diphtheria and Influenza.

The mortality in the Sub-districts into which the parish is divided was as under :—
