REPORT.
Gentlemen,
I have the honor to present my report on the vital statistics
of Bethnal Green for the year 1893.
POPULATION.
The population of the parish was estimated in the year 1892 at
127,040; for 1893 I estimate the number at 123,000, a decrease of
4,040. I arrive at this figure after a careful examination of the
registered births in the three sub-districts into which the parish is
divided. It is well known that birth-rates are subject to very
small variations from year to year, therefore we may safely assume
that, as the number of births diminishes, the number of inhabitants
of the district decreases in like ratio.
The numbers of births registered in each of the three years 1891,
1892 and 1893, are compared in the following table. The populations,
as enumerated in 1891 and estimated in 1892 and 1893, are also
shown for purposes of comparison.
