RESPIRATORY DISEASES.
The deaths from Chest diseases, other than Phthisis, and Pulmonary
Influenza were 833, being over one-fourth of the total
mortality from all causes, and corresponding to a rate of 6.77 per
thousand population at all ages.
This is the fourth year of the Influenza outbreak and there is
every probability of its being a permanent infliction. The deaths
from Influenza numbered 40, most were of the Pulmonary type,
and are therefore referred to, though not included under this head.
Probably some of the Pneumonia and Bronchitis deaths, which were
much in excess of the average, were really due to some form of
Influenza.
