BIRTHS AND BIRTH RATE.
The births registered during the year were 4,756. This is equal
to a rate of 38 6 which is identical with that of the two previous
years. It is, as usual, nearly eight per thousand in excess of the
general Metropolitan rate, which was 30.9. This was also identical
with-that of the two preceding years.
In the registration Sub-districts of Bethnal Green the birth rates were as under :—

East | 35.6 |
The East district shows the lowest birth rate. This is accounted
for by the fact that it contains the largest proportion of children
and unmarried women.
MARRIAGES. In this parish there are fourteen Churches, fifteen Chapels and one Registry Office licensed for marriages : of these there were in the

This total indicates a marriage rate of 11.40 to every thousand
persons; or, as in each marriage there are two contracting parties,
22.8 per thousand of our population entered the bonds of matrimony.
DEATHS OF INFANTS.
Twenty-six per cent, of the deaths from all causes were those of
infants aged less than twelve months; for out of 4,756 children
born alive 849 died before reaching the age of one year. This gives
