The number of children born in the first quarter
of the year was 805; in the second quarter, 793;
in the third quarter, 780; and in the last quarter,
799.
Compared with the previous year, there was a

population, but when corrected for deaths in hospitals
and outlying institutions, the rate of mortality is
increased by 4.7. The number of parishioners
ending their days in such institutions appears to be
increasing year by year. On the other hand, there
are fewer deaths in Bermondsey Workhouse.
In the Leather Market District the deaths numbered
322, and the death-rate was 21.4; in St. Mary
Magdalen District the deaths were 329, and the
death-rate 21.0; and in St. James' District, 881
deaths occurred, being equal to a death-rate of 16.3.

reduction in the number of deaths in St. Mary
Magdalen District, which may be due to the removal
