enteric fever, measles, whooping cough and diarrhœa were 205,
a number much in excess of the average of the past ten years,
that average being only 181.

The number and the causes of death from zymotic diseases occurring in Clerkenwell during the last ten years are exhibited in the following table:—

To the number of zymotic deaths occurring in the district,
must be added 48 deaths which occurred in extra parochial
hospitals, mainly those of the Metropolitan Asylums Board,
making a total of 253 deaths from zymotic disease. This gives
a death rate of 3.8 per 1,000, while the rate for London as a
whole is only 3.1. The increase it will be seen from the table is
