SEWER VENTILATION.
During the past year shafts have been erected against various
premises in the district, but in several instances, owing to the
owners of the property affected by the open road vents refusing
permission to erect vents in lieu thereof, recourse has been had
to ventilating tubes erected on the highway.
Special mention should be made of the abolition of the road
vents opposite the " Marquis of Granby " P.H., New Cross Road,
which were for years a source of complaint from the inhabitants
and general public using this portion of the main road ; these
vents were not closed until I had held many consultations with
the legal advisers of the Trustees of the Simpson Estate, and the
matter had been favourably reported upon by their Surveyor,
after which I was able to furnish the London County Council's
Engineer with the sanction to the erection of a 12" x 6" shaft at
333, New Cross Road, and the vents were, it is to be hoped,
sealed for ever.
The following vents have been so dealt with during the
year, viz. :—
Sewer Vents. Sewer Tubes on Highways.
Dennett's Road Church Street, Deptford
New Cross Road Erlanger Road
117, Greenwich Road
Lower Road, 6" x 8"
LOCAL SEWERS.
