Accompanied by a letter from Dr. Urquhart explaining that due to "an initial error in numbering on the part of our secretaries" resulted in "the substitution of No.56 for 55" as the number of the report. Therefore the 56th report (1882-83) follows the 54th report (1881-82)
Consists of a list of office-bearers, the report of the physician superintendent (A.R. Urquhart), statistical table, reports of the Commissioners in Lunacy (Arthur Mitchell, John Sibbald), general regulations and rates of board.
