Description

The recipes are primarily of the domestic sort, but medical recipes are interspersed throughout. The volume, excluding blanks, totals around 80 pages, with one letter addressed to Lady East loosely inserted. The bookplate of Sir James Buller Ease is seen inside the front cover.

Biographical note

Lady East was born as the second daughter of James Henry Leigh in 1794. She was the sister of Chandos Leigh and a cousin of Jane Austen. She married Sir James Buller East in 1822 and became Lady East of Bourton House, near Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire.
