About this work

Description

This was originally built in 1821 and rebuilt in 1852-3, as a wing of the original central building. This wing is pictured from the south or garden side. It was the ‘Gentlemen’s Hospital’ in the early 20th century. One photograph dates from the early 20th century and shows the open verandah; the second photograph is mid 20th century when the open front of the verandah had been filled in with glass windows; the third photograph shows the far inner end of the Gentlemen’s Hospital and the verandah next to it behind the ‘East Centre’.
