About this work

Description

Mainly newspaper cuttings about the Retreat, from the local and national press, as well as from The Friend; cuttings on a few more general topics are included. Some cuttings relate to patients eg deaths, inquests; others are on staff, events etc. A cutting from The Philadelphia Inquirer 2 May 1879 has also been inserted at the beginning of the volume, relating to a patient freed from the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane. The volume also includes a handwritten programme for the planting of a tree at the Retreat in memory of Queen Victoria, 4 February 1901
