(Offprint from The Friends' Quarterly Examiner, April 1946) Dr Garrod was the daughter of Bedford Pierce and she was a Retreat governor and a a member of the Retreat Committee. Dr Knight was a doctor at the Retreat. This article, written to commemorate its 150th anniversary, gives a resume of the history of the Retreat, talks about Bedford Pierce and The Retreat in the 20th century and describes what the Retreat was like in 1946
