Description

Medium: Pencil, watercolour and oil Size: 34.5 x 28.8 An inscription reading 'during acute mania with degraded tendencies' is no longer visible due to the rehousing of art collection in 1989, and an inscription still visible reads, 'Glasgow', 'Bothwell'. This work has been attributed to William James Blacklock. This item is currently framed for display purposes.

Biographical note

William James Blackwood (1816-1858) was a landscape painter, whose work focussed on scenes of Cumbria, the Lake District and Borders. He was a patient at Crichton Royal Institution from 1855 to 1858.
