Refr: Eimas 1511; Norman 503 Desc: With the half-title Note: Born at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, Conolly graduated M.D. from Edinburgh. In 1828 he became professor of medicine at the University of London, and in 1839 took charge of the Middlesex Asylum at Hanwell. Although best known as a pioneer in the humane treatment of the mentally ill, Conolly also made other important contributions to psychiatry. The above work is one of his most important. It is the first work to attempt to link normal and abnormal states of mind, as well as discussing the condition of British hospitals and ways to improve the care of the mentally ill
