When folded, the card shows a woman with brown, wavy hair in a green dress holding a handkerchief to her nose, an expression of suffering on her face. Lift the flap and she is smiling - with a carbolic smoke ball held just below her nostrils. They cost 10 shillings and refills cost 5 shillings and cured hay fever, coughs, colds, asthma, catarrh, bronchitis, sore throat, influenza, croup, whooping cough, neulagia, headache, hoarseness, loss of voice.The Carbolic Smoke Ball Company was based at 27 Princes Street, Hanover Square, London.
