Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "He is photographed leaning on a table in front of the photographer's studio backdrop, possibly on graduation from military academy. He wears a uniform, including riding boots and a great coat, and holds gloves and a whip. Jodhpurs and riding boots with spurs as worn here were, and are, considered fetish objects; in a military context such as this denoting power and dominance".
