About this work

Description

Letter from Moses Angel, Headmaster of the Jews' Free School, Bell Lane, Spitalfields. Angel states that he is looking forward to receiving Galton at the school, "For the purpose mentioned in your letter of the 14th inst.". This may have been to take fingerprints of the schoolchildren, as there are sets of fingerprints of Jewish girls and boys described as being from "Bell Lane School". See GALTON/2/9/6/3/1. Notes by Galton on the back of the letter also indicate that he and an assistant arranged to collect fingerprints.
