The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A sepia reproduction of Tuke's most famous work 'August Blue', produced in the 1920s. Even though by this time towards the end of his life his work had become unfashionable, it was still popular enough in certain circles to warrant reproduction on postcards such as this. The homosexual painter Henry Scott Tuke (1858-1929) was a founder of the Newlyn School of painting. He first moved to Cornwall in the 1880s. He became known for his romanticised portraits of local fisher lads, and became a respected member of the Royal Academy."
