About this work

Description

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Foster and Ninon appear to be a musical duo. Possibly one of any number of variety acts featuring drag which proliferated after World War I. Ninon's chosen stage name is almost certainly a reference to the historic French courtesan Ninon de l'Enclos, infamous at this time as the subject of a risqué, witty and highly popular sketch by the French revue singer Alice Delysia at the London Pavilion in 1918 in C.B. Cochran's revue 'As you were'."
