About this work

Publication/Creation

London (246 Old Kent Road) : Parisian school of photography, [between 1910 and 1919?]

Physical description

1 photographic postcard ; 13.5 x 8.8 cm

Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "He holds a white cane. Extravagant amateur drag or fancy dress, photographed against a sylvan glade backdrop at the Parisian School of Photography's studio, in London's Old Kent Road. Traditionally a rough and ready working-class area, it is not the kind of place one might expect to encounter young men like this dressed like a French tart, the glittery lamé frock slashed to the thigh. The gigantic hat is of the cartwheel variety, popular for a very few years around 1910: these were perhaps the largest hats ever worn. An amateur theatrical performer perhaps?"
This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
