Adelaide Bartlett may or may not have killed her husband Thomas Edwin Bartlett in 1886 in a case known as The Pimlico mystery or The Pimlico poisoning mystery. She was tried for her husband’s murder and was acquitted since the prosecution could not prove how the crime was committed. His stomach was found to be full of chloroform, yet his throat did not appear to have been affected by the chloroform, raising uncertainty among pathologists as to how it had been administered to him
