Biographical note

Waddington comments that he read the article with "both amusement and disgust" and that the "whole thing was a "veiled attack" on Pontecorvo. Waddington wrote a response to the original letter, along with a covering letter to Sir Nevill Francis Mott, with a view to submitting it to be published in the Cambridge Review.Pontecorvo annotated this letter, "persuaded Wad that he should not send the letter".

Also includes copy of original letter published in Cambridge Review (with Pontecorvo's annotations), and draft copies of Waddington's cover letter to Mott and draft response letter for the Cambridge Review titled, 'On declining to be a New Professor.'
