About this work

Description

Pontecorvo had two complaints. The first was about an article in the Manchester Guardiancontaining erroneous details, or "howlers" about the research work currently going on at the University of Glasgow under Pontecorvo's direction. Pontecorvo balmed the NRDC for this. The second complaint regarded a clause in a contract of employment between the NRDC and Mr James Hutchison which stated that Mr Hutchison should send regular progress reports to the NRDC about discoveries, inventions or secret processes uncovered in Pontecorvo's department.

Also includes copies of extracts of clauses in the agreement between NRDC and Hutchison, and a copy of the text of the article published in the Manchester Guardian titled 'Micro-organisms bred to order by new laboratory technique'. Lord Salsbury believed that both complaints were unjustified.
