The RNA Tie Club

The RNA Tie Club subseries is composed of material used to assemble the RNA Tie Club book, which was conceived in the 1970s but never published. The subseries includes correspondence with George Gamow, copies of papers distributed to RNA Tie Club members, and correspondence with publishers and co-editors Leslie Orgel and Alexander Rich. The book itself includes copies of RNA Tie Club correspondence and significant papers authored by Watson, Gamow, Rich, Crick, and others. The manuscript includes an essay entitled “After the Double Helix,” which was later used in Watson’s Genes, Girls, and Gamow. The RNA Tie Club was an informal group of scientists who exchanged ideas on RNA structure and proteins. Their discussions led to several published papers, including Sydney Brenner’s “On the Impossibility of All Overlapping Triplet Codes” (1956).
