Notes

The MS. can be approximately dated by the reference on p. 95 to the 'Méthode de la pierre de Choisel Jésuite' for treatment of rabies, 'depuis 1749'. Claude de Choisel was also an apothecary, and was sent to India by his Order, and lived fifty years in Pondicherry where he had a Pharmacy. In 1756 he published a 'Nouvelle méthode sûre pour le traitement...de la rage' in Paris, which was translated into English in 1757.
