About this work

Description

Collection of medical and cookery receipts in various hands, later 17th century - c. 1800.

The original 17th-century entries are separated into two sections, cookery in the front of the volume, medicine in the rear. The latter recipes are largely arranged in alphabetical order from the back.

There is an acephalous index to both sections at the front of the book (ff. 1-17).

Authorities cited include Sir Kenelm Digby (f. n135v.), 'Dr Bryan' (f. 158v.), 'Dr Chambers' (f. 118 r.), 'Dr Nursse' (f. 129r.) [?Thomas Nurse MD, c. 1598-1667], and 'Dr. Sermon' (f. 136r.) [William Sermon MD, 1629?-1679].
